Unexplained Podcast – Chilling Stories that Will Challenge Your Beliefs

Unexplained is a podcast about strange and mysterious real life events that continue to evade explanation. A show that explores the space between what we think of as real and what is not.  Where the unknown and paranormal meets the most radical ideas in science today. It’s eery, atmospheric and mind-bending in parts. The host and creator, Richard MacLean Smith, has thoroughly researched each story and presents in a calm and almost hypnotic way. He doesn’t dictate a conclusion, rather poses possible scenarios to the listener which adds to the intensity. You don’t need to listen in order – start with ‘Do You See What I See (S1, Ep 3) and ‘The Last Flight’ (S2, Ep 3) both available here or on iTunes.

Moss & Fog – Beauty, Design, Smart Ideas

Who doesn’t like looking at beautiful things?

Moss and Fog is a project by a creative guy, Ben. It grew out of his overwhelming desire to share cool and beautiful things he sees. He covers areas of design, science and nature that appeal to the eye and the brain. Like this crazy $150 Million Stair to Nowhere (pictured) that New York will be getting some time next year and this Perfectly Preserved Mid Century Home in Dallas and these Incredible Geometric Desserts.

In his own words “Design/culture blogs are plentiful, but I think when well curated, they can be beautiful respites on the internet to get inspired and find new ideas.” Agree.

Brain Pickings Weekly Email Newsletter

I decluttered my email subscriptions recently but there a few remaining emails I look forward to each week and Brain Pickings is one of them.

Brain Pickings is the brainchild of Maria Popova, a self-described ‘reader, writer, interestingness hunter-gatherer, and curious mind at large’. She puts a subjective lens on what matters in the world and why, inquiring into how to live and what it means to lead a good life.

A good place to start to get a feel for her work is at the seven things she’s learned in seven years of reading, writing, and living. If you like it, sign up for her weekly newsletter which offers the week’s most unmissable articles across creativity, psychology, art, science, design, philosophy, and other facets of our search for meaning.

Invisibilia Podcast

Season 2 of the Invisibilia podcast is due to drop on 17th June so I’m giving you time to get up to speed and listen to season 1. Invisibilia (Latin for invisible things) is about the invisible forces that control human behavior – ideas, beliefs, assumptions and emotions. It interweaves narrative storytelling with scientific research that will ultimately make you see your own life differently. I don’t have a favourite. I found all of them outstanding so start at episode 1 and work your way through all six of them. They are around an hour each. Where will you find the time? Just go to bed an hour earlier and pop your headphones in instead of watching rubbish on TV. Listen, subscribe or find out more here.
